HEALTHY?           WEALTHY?            WISE?             JOYFUL?

Sadness is a choice we make

Happiness is a choice we make

... and since it  is our choice, it really is up to us to choose ...

Of course, it's one thing to know what to do; it is another to actually do it.

Wherever you go, people love to tell others what to do. And there are lots of books and movies and foods and drugs and activities to help us change our mood and lead us to joy. And all these have one thing in common - they work from the outside in, which of course is just the opposite of what you need to do to really be "at choice" and in charge of your life.

Is one choice really better than another? Is happiness really a better choice than sadness?

No

No choice is better than another, only different. As long as we consciously make the choice, there is no difference. The real joy is in being able to choose consciously. However most people fail to make conscious choices. They make choices based on what happened in the past, while they were in the womb, in childhood, during a past life, yesterday, etc. All these events created an unconscious program that resulted in a conditioned response that many of us are now coming to realize are not so much our choice as they are our pre-programmed response. And now we are coming to realize that we can consciously choose otherwise.

Yeah, but if we know what is good for us, why don't we always make the choice to be happy?

We always make the choice that best serves us at the time.

Always

So if that is true, then what difference does it make what choice we make?

The difference is only lies in the value we attach liking or not liking the result of our choices.

Some people would say that no one really makes their own choices because they have been pre-programmed to respond in certain ways. While that is not correct, in a way, there is some truth in it since we are all one and any choice we make impacts virtually everyone else in the world. Everyone. So when we make a choice, we do it for everyone since everyone is impacted. Everyone.

That can be an awesome responsibility. and is probably the reason so many people live so unconsciously so much of the time so they don't have to deal consciously with the real consequences of their choices.

Let me give you an example. There are hungry people in the world and you are aware of it. When you fail to take action to help them, you have made a choice. That choice impacts them, you, the farmer, the food transport driver, the food seller, the food packager, etc. If you have to live with conscious awareness of your choice all day, you might feel more compelled to take action because you would come face to face with the start reality that the person you failed to help out of hunger is really a part of you, a reflection of you. If there is no one else in the room, then everyone is in the room with you, at least unconsciously. And that can get pretty crowded in a conscious reality. So many people choose to remain unaware consciously of the real nature of the universe. Unaware of their real connection to everyone and everything. It's a way of coping with reality.

So what has all this to do with joy?

Pretty much everything. You see joy comes from making conscious choices. But when we are living unconsciously, we cannot make conscious choices. And therefore it becomes challenging to live joyfully.

That's what all this has to do with living joyfully.
